Before you sell your phone: a 10-step checklist
Back up, sign out, remove locks, clean and price your phone correctly before selling it in India.
Why a checklist helps
Most problems after a sale come from small things people forget: a Google account still signed in, a forgotten memory card, or a bill that cannot be found. Ten minutes of preparation protects your data and usually gets you a better price.
The 10 steps
- Back up photos, WhatsApp chats and contacts (Google Photos / Google One, or iCloud on iPhone).
- Note your exact model and storage: Settings → About phone.
- Check battery health if your phone shows it (iPhone: Settings → Battery → Battery Health).
- Sign out of your Google account or Apple ID — otherwise the buyer cannot use the phone (Factory Reset Protection / Activation Lock).
- Remove the SIM card and memory card.
- Unpair smartwatches and earbuds, and log out of banking and UPI apps.
- Factory reset the phone (see our data-wipe guide).
- Clean the phone, screen and charging port gently with a dry cloth.
- Find the box, charger, cable and the original bill — they add value.
- Check today's fair price on Valuelix and compare buyers before you decide.
What to keep for yourself
Keep a photo of the phone's IMEI (dial *#06#) and the buyer's details or the buyback receipt. If the phone is later misused, this proves when you sold it.
Price tip
Decide your lowest acceptable price before talking to buyers. With a fair estimate in hand you are much harder to talk down.
Your exact price depends on your variant, condition, battery and accessories. It takes about 1 minute and needs no login.
