Valuelix

How We Calculate Prices

Real prices first

Whenever we have them, real prices decide your result — in this order: (1) offers from verified local dealers on Valuelix, (2) prices users tell us they actually received, (3) market checks: buying prices from dealers or public buyback quotes that Valuelix checked by hand, with the date. When at least 3 such prices from the last 60 days exist for your exact variant and condition, their median IS the price (newer prices and dealer offers count a little more). With 3+ real prices for the model but not your exact variant, we use them and adjust for your variant and condition. Every result says which it is: "Dealer offers", "Recently sold", "Market check" or "Estimate". We never present an estimate as a real price.

The formula (only when there are no real prices)

Estimate = current new price × age × condition × storage/RAM × battery × accessories × bill × reported issues × brand demand. You see every step on the result page.

1. Today's new price

We start from today's price of a NEW unit of your exact model and variant. Our catalog stores each model's launch price and launch date, and a checked current price with its date when available. If no checked price exists yet, we estimate today's new price from the launch price using a price-drop curve for that type of device. Prices checked more than 30 days ago are marked as old. If your model is not in the catalog, you type the new price yourself, we place the model in a segment (budget, mid-range, premium or flagship), and the estimate is marked Low confidence.

2. Age

Devices lose value smoothly over time, fastest in the first year. We use a smooth curve per device type (premium phone, budget phone, premium laptop, and so on), so every purchase year gives a different price. A purchase year before the model was launched is not possible, so it is not offered.

3. Condition, battery, accessories, bill

Like new, good, fair or damaged changes the price. Battery health is optional. Box and charger, and having the original bill, add a little. Damage questions only lower the price if you tick that the problem exists — leaving them blank never reduces your price.

4. Brand demand

Some brands hold their value better than others in the used market. This is a small adjustment, shown openly in the breakdown.

5. Real sale prices

After each estimate you can tell us — anonymously — what you actually sold the device for. Together with real offers from verified local dealers, these data points are compared with our formula. When at least 3 clean data points exist for a model (or 5 for its segment), their median gently pulls the estimate towards real prices and confidence goes up. Impossible values and outliers are removed automatically, so fake entries cannot spoil the estimate.

6. The range

We show a small range of about ±6.5% around the estimate, rounded to ₹500, because the final price always depends on inspection. A used device is never estimated above 90% of its new price.

7. Confidence

High: model in our catalog with a new price checked in the last 30 days, or enough real sale data. Medium: model in the catalog, but its new price is estimated from the launch price or the check is older than 30 days, or you changed the new price. Low: model not in the catalog yet. Real sale data raises confidence.

8. Where you can sell

We list every verified Indian buyer that takes your type of device and brand (and only those — we never pad the list), highest first. There are four types: marketplaces (you sell yourself, usually the most money), instant buyback (quick cash or UPI, usually 15–25% less than selling yourself), exchange (credit only on a new device) and store trade-in (store credit, usually 20–35% below the market). The amount next to each name is a Valuelix estimate for that TYPE of buyer, not an official offer from that company — tap "Check exact quote" to see their real offer. Valuelix local dealers are shown first because they send real offers.

What we never do

  • No copying (scraping) of other websites' prices.
  • No paid price APIs.
  • No fake "live" prices or fake offers.
  • No personal details needed to see a price.
